Some of the projects that I have worked on have involved the use of digital compositing techniques in order to seemlessly piece together different layers of film and effects. What follows are two videos which demonstrate some of the better examples of work which tested and helped to develop my compositing skills.

SoftImage XSI ICE
FIRE
Having
recently upgrading to Autodesk SoftImage XSI 2010 I've had to get used
to using the new ICE particle system because they've done away with the
old particle system in XSI.
Shame, but ICE is supposed to be
easier because it is all nodes based, so you just 'plug and go' with
which ever variables you wish.
Anyway, here is my first attempt at fire using ICE.
TV Promo
This video was part of a brief that required me to create a short ident for a television program using compositing and digital editing software. I used some 3D animation work and edited it together with some graphics and 2d effects in Combustion.
Effects Animation
Below is a short example of some particle simulations that I have completed. I created a proxy-model of a house in a street using the rotoscope feature in XSI, then added four different particle simulations to the scene; fire, snow, smoke and rain. The particles were subjected to simulated effects including gravity, wind and turbulence which adds to the realistic look of the simulations. I carried out some extensive video and pictorial research into the natural characteristics of the aforementioned phenomena in order to better understand how to create realistic and ultimately believable effects. Apologies for the video quality, I had to compress the original 78mb file for a quicker upload.
3D Animation
Here's my first graded piece of 3D animation. It was modeled, textured, animated and rendered using SoftImage's XSI 6.5 then chopped and edited together using Adobe Premiere. Though it is a little crude, quite short and has no real complicated animation in it, it was good enough to get me a decent passing grade in my first year at university, enjoy...
2D Animation
This short 2D animated sequence was intended as an exercise to study and apply an eight stage walk cycle to a biped character who would be hindered through carrying a heavy object. However, due to a timing limitation I had to cut the walk down to a six stage cycle, I think it still works effectively...
